Looking mature helps you feel respected and admired by those around you.

By exuding class and composure, you gain admiration from your peers and the younger people who will look up to you.

Fortunately, there are some steps that you can take to look more like a mature man.

If you’re wondering how you can get started, here are some ten tips that can help you out:

1) Fix your posture

I can’t stress enough how important posture is.

Yes, you hear that keeping a good posture is good for your back but what you may not know, however, is that if you stand up straight and hold your head high, it will not only make you feel better about yourself but also make you look like a mature man.

Instead of slouching or stooping over like an old man or a child, keep your shoulders back and chest out at all times.

Doing this correctly will make your spine feel much more comfortable.

This will also help you boost self-confidence, just like a bear standing tall to assert power over others.

You can have that power in you if you stand up tall.

2) Work on your physique

If you want to look like a mature man, it is important that you take care of your body.

Your physique can make or break the impression people have of you.

Physical strength is a great way to show the world you have your life together.

You can do this by maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen, consistently getting enough sleep, and taking care of your body.

You could also take up martial arts or another physical activity that’s challenging but rewarding.

Doing these things will make you feel better about yourself, which will make others feel more comfortable around you.

Feeling good about yourself is important at any age, but as men get older, it becomes even more important for self-esteem issues not to get in the way of leading an active lifestyle or having relationships with other people.

3) Your body language speaks volumes about you

You don’t have to speak to others for them to think you’re mature or not. Your body language or how you hold yourself speaks for you even before you have that first conversation with someone else.

This is why respectably holding yourself is your best shot in earning respect for others.

Besides having a good posture, as I’ve mentioned above, you should also maintain good eye contact when talking with people or listening to them talk.

This shows you’re engaged in the conversation and interested in what they say.

Don’t fidget or cross your arms across your chest, as this makes it look like you don’t have confidence in yourself or what you are saying.

Instead, try leaning against a wall or sitting with both feet flat on the ground as opposed to one foot crossing over the other, which will help project strength and confidence about who you are.

If you lack confidence, you might want to adopt a “power pose”.

According to Simon Marshall in The Brave Athlete: Calm the F*ck Down and Rise to the Occasion, “recent research shows that something as simple as adopting a “power pose” for one-minute increases testosterone, decreases cortisol, and increases feelings of power.”

What is a power pose?

This is simply body language that is open and expansive, with the chest out, shoulders back, and eyes looking straight ahead. Psychologist Amy Cuddy shows a few power poses below.

So the next time you feel low in confidence, pull your shoulders, look straight ahead and let your body language scream that you will not be f*cked with today.

Not only will you look more mature, but you’ll also look confident and manly.

4) Choose a clean haircut

You will be surprised by how much a good haircut can do for your appearance.

In fact, it’s one of the most important things you can do to make yourself look more mature.

When people look at you, your hair is the first thing people see, and a messy, unkempt hairstyle can make you appear not just younger than you are but also not well put as a person.

If you need a new cut, it’s best to go up to someone who knows what they’re doing and get their advice on what would suit your face shape best.

A clean-cut hairstyle will always look professional no matter how old or young you are, so don’t be afraid to switch things up if something makes you uncomfortable.

But don’t be afraid of choosing a style that suits your taste. A personalized hairstyle is somewhat your branding that other people will surely notice.

5) Commit to a skin care routine

Taking care of your skin is not an option. It is a must.

A regular skincare routine is like a form of discipline that you must have as it helps you maintain a healthy appearance as you grow older.

Think of your skincare routine as one of the best long-term investments you can embark on.

With that, everyone’s skin is different, and many factors affect how quickly our faces age or stay youthful, but certain products can help prevent signs of aging.

It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive as well.

A cleanser that can exfoliate dirt and oil from your face is a start.

Choose a good moisturizer to keep your face hydrated, helping fight wrinkles and fine lines.

Sunscreen should be applied every time you go outside, protecting you from the sun’s harmful rays.

Maturity isn’t just about looking dashing or clean, but also about having the self-discipline needed to maintain and improve the quality of your life.

6) Trim that beard so it’s not too bushy

To get the right mature look, you need to trim that beard, so it’s not too bushy.

A good beard should be neat, not messy, and bushy.

A good beard should be well-groomed, trimmed, and brushed regularly.

But even if you don’t grow too much facial hair, keeping your stubbles trimmed and neat is still important.

If your beard is very bushy, sometimes it can make you look fat.

To be honest, you don’t have to be like or look like James Bond to look mature, you just need to avoid looking like a caveman when you go outside of your house.

However you like your facial hair, keep it tidy.

7) Dress well to look presentable

The best way to look like a mature man is to dress like one.

When dressing, you must be aware of the occasion, weather, and body type.

This is especially the case if you’re a younger man looking to attract an older woman.

You should also consider your age and any personality traits that might make certain styles more or less appealing to you.

Your clothes should be clean and pressed. You’ll look sloppy by default if they’re not freshly laundered after each use.

Your clothing should always fit properly; if possible, buy something with extra room so it can easily be tailored down later if necessary.

A suit can especially become uncomfortable if it is too tight.

Additionally, it’s time to buy new clothes if there are stains or holes in your clothing, let alone an odor emanating from them.

Talking about shoes, the shoes you wear are just as important as the clothes themselves.

Nothing says “lazy” or “immature” like wearing flip-flops with an otherwise professional outfit so make sure you wear matching shoes.

Loafers or leather shoes are your staples in black or brown.

Moreover, my biggest tip for anyone is to invest in quality clothes.

Good and better-quality clothes may cost you more, but your return is invaluable.

It’s like this: you buy clothes at a cheaper price, but how long would that last you? Not as long as better quality clothes that you can use for years to come.

8) Smelling good is basic hygiene

Good hygiene is a must when it comes to looking mature. No one wants to be around someone who smells bad, let alone be around them or even date them.

Here are some easy ways how you can keep yourself smelling fresh:

  • Apply deodorant every day in the morning after your shower and before you leave for work or school. Make sure that you apply it evenly so that no spots are left behind.
  • Wash your hands regularly throughout the day; this will help with keeping germs away from your skin and mouth as well as getting rid of any dirt from working out (if applicable).
  • Use mouthwash after brushing your teeth at night before bed since bacteria tends to build up on our teeth overnight while we sleep, making us more likely to have bad breath in the morning if we don’t cleanse properly beforehand
  • Buy a long-lasting perfume that suits your preference. Make sure it’s not too strong, though as that can repulse others which is something you do not want.

9) Be mindful of how you speak

When speaking, you should be mindful of how you sound.

You don’t have to speak in a monotone or high-pitched voice, but there’s no need to mumble or slur your words.

A gentleman that carries himself with honor is generally well-spoken.

Your tone should be confident and clear enough that people can hear you but not so loud that they’re forced to take a step back.

Speaking is something that we do every day of our lives.

However, if you want to present yourself as a mature man, your words should carry weight, which means being mindful of how you speak in person and over the phone.

A good rule of thumb?

Listen carefully before speaking out loud: does your message come across clearly? Are there any areas where clarity could be improved upon?

If someone else has asked for clarification on something important, make sure their question was answered and reworded in a way that better conveys what was meant by those listening.

This also shows them that you are listening and that you are someone that has value in talking to them.

I’m not asking you to be the best public speaker as well. Speaking is actually 80% listening and 20% responding. Don’t be like a jukebox where you just talk for the sake of being able to say something.

10) Be confident

Confidence is an essential thing to have as a mature and masculine man.

It’s something you can learn and help you in every aspect of life.

Confidence means you are comfortable in your skin, which is attractive to others, who will be likelier to listen to what you have to say because they know that you believe in yourself.

The more confident and comfortable you become with yourself, the more likely people will like you for who you are and respect you.

That said, confidence doesn’t mean bragging or showing off – it just means having faith in your abilities and knowing that others will respect them too.

If I only had one word to describe how to look like a mature man, I would say “confidence”.

Confidence goes hand in hand with looking like a mature man.
