9 surprising signs she likes you by the way she looks at you

The difference between a healthy relationship and a toxic one often boils down to a fine line – the line of personal space. A clingy woman, well, she tends to blur that line.

Spotting the early warning signs of a clingy woman can help you navigate your relationship more effectively, and potentially even save you a lot of heartache down the road. As an expert in relationships, I’ve seen it all and then some.

Today, I share seven early warning signs of a clingy woman that I’ve noticed over the years.

Let’s dive right in!

1) She’s constantly checking in

Navigating the digital age can be a tricky business. Technology has made it easier than ever to stay connected, but it also means that we’re never truly “off the grid”.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to keep in touch. But when ‘keeping in touch’ begins to look more like ‘keeping tabs’, it might be time to raise an eyebrow.

One of the earliest warning signs of a clingy woman is the constant need for contact. If she’s calling or texting you every hour, or even every few minutes, asking where you are or what you’re doing, that’s a red flag.

This isn’t about being concerned or caring – because those are good things. It’s about control and fear of being alone. As noted by Susan Krauss Whitbourne, Ph.D., a Professor Emerita of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, “Clingy partners are often anxiously attached, meaning they are oversensitive to cues that their partner may abandon them.”

It’s a sign that she might not be comfortable with giving you space, and that can be a serious issue down the line.

2) She’s always seeking reassurance

Reassurance in a relationship is important, no doubt about that. We all need to feel loved and valued. But constantly seeking validation?

That’s a different story.

This is well-acknowledged as a sign of emotional dependency by experts like those at Healthline.

So what does this look like?

Well, a clingy woman may constantly seek reassurance about your feelings for her, often in the form of questions like “Do you love me?” or “Do you think I’m attractive?” While it’s completely normal to need validation occasionally, the constant need for it can be draining and indicative of deeper insecurities.

Take it from me: a healthy relationship thrives on mutual trust and respect, not constant reassurances.

3) She’s overly accommodating

There’s a saying: “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” This can apply to relationships too.

You might think, “Isn’t it great that she’s always agreeable and willing to do anything and everything I want?”

Well, not necessarily.

While a certain level of compromise is healthy in any relationship, excessive accommodation can actually be an early warning sign of a clingy woman.

She might be trying to mold herself into the perfect partner, agreeing with your every opinion and bending over backward to meet your every need – even if it means compromising her own preferences and values.

This can indicate a deep-seated fear of conflict or rejection and lead to resentment in the future.

4) She doesn’t have her own interests

Another one of the early warning signs of a clingy woman is if she doesn’t seem to have any interests outside of your relationship. If she’s always free when you’re free, always wants to do what you’re doing, or if her world seems to revolve around you, it might be time to take a step back.

As noted by the folks at HelpGuide “Lack of satisfaction or purpose in life outside of the relationship.”

In my experience, a healthy relationship requires two independent individuals who come together to share their lives, not consume each other’s.

In fact, I discuss this very concept in my book Breaking The Attachment: How To Overcome Codependency in Your Relationship. It’s all about finding that delicate balance between togetherness and individuality.

We all need our own space and time to pursue our personal interests. It’s what keeps us balanced and fulfilled. So watch out for a partner who doesn’t seem to have her own world beyond you.

5) She’s quick to label the relationship

We’ve all heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” The same can be said for relationships. Building a solid, lasting relationship takes time and patience.

A clingy woman, however, might try to rush things. If she’s pushing for a label or commitment after only a few dates, that can be a red flag. It’s not about playing games or being aloof, it’s about taking the time to know each other and develop a strong foundation.

Good things take time. Patience is key.

Final Thoughts: Understanding Clinginess

We’ve explored some early signs of a clingy woman, but it’s important to remember that everyone has moments of insecurity and neediness. It’s when these moments turn into a pattern that it becomes a concern.

If the woman you are dating shows these signs, this doesn’t mean you should run for the hills.

The important thing is that you recognize the signs and strive to get to the root of the issue with your partner. Clinginess in a relationship often stems from deeper insecurities and fears, and your partner may need help identifying these.
